Like an old friend you've lost contact with, your old friend is on the internet, or they are on the web and you just want to make sure they are safe. Many wireless routers these days are configured to use WAP (wireless access protection) for additional security when online. WAP is also great for children who are using the internet for their activities and don't want other people prying into their personal information. But like an old friend you've lost contact with, your old friend's wireless router is on the fritz, or if they were on the web, you'd like to make sure they are still safe.

 

Before doing anything, log onto your router via its default asus router login credentials. This can usually be done by hitting F8, scrolling to the very bottom and clicking the "Gateway" tab. The Wi-Fi password usually requires a complex mathematical algorithm to make sure you can't easily guess it, so it's critical that you memorize it and store it somewhere safe.

 

Once you have the Wi-Fi setup, you can log on to your router with whatever user ID and password you've set during the setup process. Your default username is "root" with a dash and your password is either "asuser" or "aswimote". It's important to remember these details for the rest of the steps in this article. There are two ways how you can reset the Wi-Fi settings on your Asus router. You can either reset the passwords, or you can reset the Wi-Fi network settings. We won't cover the method used for resetting the password of your default username and password.

 

Resetting the Wi-Fi settings of your Asus router is as simple as digging deep into the software CD and updating the firmware version number of your unit. Most manufacturers provide the update software you'll need in order to apply these updates. Just download the relevant software and follow the on-screen instructions. When you've successfully updated the firmware version number of your unit, restart your computer and put it into "update all" mode. Then, use your default username and password to log on to your new network.
